Walhalla
The unexamined life is not worth living - Socrates
I thought that this would be an appropriate blip to mention the origin of this journal's current name "Examined Life" - Socrates was referring to something like the discussion of virtue, but I thought it would fit photographing life quite well too.
Anyway, today was the day we went to Walhalla (the 'w' pronounced as 'v') or the Hall of the Dead - a giant monument celebrating people of the Germanic tongue throughout time. We got there by ship along the Donau, a great little cruise with the sun shining overhead.
I made it my mission to find Kant - an omnipresent figure in the study of philosophy, his works as hard to fully understand as they are influential. After all the time I've spent trying to get my head around his theories of epistemology, morals and aesthetics, I thought I should probably try to find him and see him "face to face".
Other notable busts included: Leibniz, Einstein, Mendel, Goethe, Copernicus, Wagner, Bach, Mozart and Beethoven - all so famous they're recognisable by last name only, and if you don't recognise any then you should check them out!
We ended the day relaxing and reading on the grass under the bridge by the river, a place that we happily spent quite a bit of time at over the week :)
