From car park to medical research

It seems like only yesterday this construction site was a car park, yet today it is well on the way to becoming a world leading centre in the battle against cancer.
It is set to become the home of revolutionary research by scientists at Southampton University Hospitals as a £25 million state of the art centre for Cancer Immunology next year.
The University of Southampton can claim to lead the UK in this type of research and says new discoveries are already moving out of the laboratory into clinical trials.
This new centre at Southampton General Hospital is set to be connected to leading institutions worldwide to expand clinical trials, explore new areas of combating the disease and develop lifesaving drugs.
It will work alongside  a major hub for biological research in London, and the University believes it will attract leading scientists from all over the world.

The University says it will be the only dedicated cancer immunology centre in the UK.
