Flower Carpet

Every two years in Brussels they have a 'flower carpet' which covers the Grand Place for a few days - this year it's exceptionally long and was planted on Tuesday and will last until Sunday.

The designs take two years to plan - hence it being every other year, and thousands of begonias are hand planted to a specific design. This year the tapestry patterns are designs from the tribes of Ethiopia, Congo, Nigeria, Botswana, and Cameroun.

So I took mum who has never seen it before and we went into the Museum of Brussels so that we could go on the balcony to look down on the carpet. Unfortunately we were facing the sun, so I'm very disappointed with my photos, and out of them all I thought this was the best.

I took some from ground level too, but the colours just aren't vivid enough - but who are we to complain? The weather is just too sunny and bright for good photos!
