to Do One's Bit (2)
My grand-daughter Ella had a project from school to produce a model of a First World War trench. That then prompted me to give her a copy of a photograph of my great uncle Gordon who in 1915 was a member of the Officers Training Corps at Berkhampstead.
The picture showed his troop learning how to construct a trench. When this was taken in to School this very rapidly produced a request that I should give a talk to the children about the war.
So here you see the end of my talk and by all appearances most of the children are still paying attention.
"Brother Bertie went away
to do his bit the other day
with a smile on his lips
and his lieutenants pips
upon his shoulders bright and gay"....
