to Finish the Job (2)
I have previously mentioned that we were having the oil painting by William Mellor (1851-1931) and depicting Easedale Tarn in the Lake District restored by a lady in Newlyn, Cornwall.
She has made a wonderful job of it and my photograph of the picture today, does not do it justice!
It has been refitted in to its frame and the whole job is now complete. A little mystery has also been resolved in that you will see that the painting depicts a cottage in the foreground. Today there is no sign of that cottage. However Alfred Wainwright can provide the answer from his guide to the Easedale area written in 1958/59:
He shows a sketch of the cottage and says:
"The ruins of the old refreshment hut at Easedale Tarn
With every passing year the hut loses a few more stones and slates (and gains more autographs) but it still provides a draughty shelter"
