Heading for Aberdeen

Back blip

Before leaving Banff this morning we visited H. She had some plants and cutting for me and I wanted to take a picture of her ‘water butt’. We heard all about it at dinner last night and had a great laugh. She is nothing if not resourceful (pic in extras). Who else would have a system with a hoover hose and crocheted cover, to keep the leaves out and easy overflow, on her butt!!

Then off along the coast to Gamrie and the villages of Gardenstown & Crovie. My cousin who died a few days ago has a small boat in this harbour. I’m not sure which one it is but I have my suspicions. He bought it is a wreck of a condition and has done it up.

Getting to these villages and Pennan is down steep, narrow, windy roads!!! Really scary in my book, I would not like to be driving if I met an approaching car.

Next stop Haddo House and gardens. It was built in the 1730’s, so no as old as the castles that we saw earlier on our trip. But like those has undergone several transformations over the centuries. The house was a maternity home during WW11.

I’ve been impressed with the quality of the guides in all of these National Trust for Scotland properties, very knowledgeable and friendly.

Finally, back to the airport to drop off the hire car and get a taxi into the city centre. It will be the train home tomorrow after a great holiday.
