Wennington

Here's the thing with providing public transport; you do it to help the people paying tax to get around for a reasonable price. When you privatise it, suddenly you find the less popular routes don't get serviced. Funny how people hark back to a better Britain but don't realise that we were a better society when we were all a bit more socialist (before the right wing press convinced us that was a bad thing to be).

I mention this because the Sunday bus service from Kirkby Lonsdale to Lancaster has been canned, much to Dan's dismay. And much as I love the boy, I don't fancy the hour or so's round trip to drop him off and then again to pick him up. As a compromise, I offered to drive him to Wennington - half an hour's round trip - so he could catch the train from there to Lancaster.

We had a good time, actually. We chatted on the journey down and then mooched around the station for a bit while we waited for the slightly delayed train. And it cost him £3.30 return, which is all right.
