Canterbury Tails

After going underground through the 'Chunnel' or Le Manche - we decided to take a detour up to Canterbury. This was to offset the next 350 miles of the journey back to the frozen North of England (knowing that we would experience a temperature drop from 35 degs down to 15 if we were lucky!)

A very busy tourist destination - full of French and Italians ! We baulked at the entry fee (£9.50 adult) to visit the cathedral or even to get a glimpse of it! So - had a coffee sitting outside instead and then a walk around the city walls. When you have Durham cathedral on your doorstep you do not need an overpriced Southern version ! Bede rules ok !!

The picture therefore was one taken in the spirit of Chaucer. By now you will or might get the pun (misspellink) in the title ! The picture is one of Bertha's big bum ! She was a Angle or Saxon Queen of Kent in 570 AD who (after the demise of the Roman Empire) was partially responsible for bringing Christianity (with delegations from St Augustine who was the Pope's((Gregory I) emissary at the time in Rome) to Canterbury. Her husband was Ethelbert who was a pagan - and remained so defying his wife. Hats off to Ethelbert !!

Suppose this is where it all started ...

Back to normality tomorrow - and will be struggling for pictures and inspiration.
