Old soldier....

Had lunch today at Manor and had a long chat with Col Aidan Sprott, former Scots Greys, and former Lord Lieutenant for Peebleshire.   Aidan is 97.   When he joined the Scots Greys it was still a horseback regiment, but as the war developed the horses gave way to tanks.   He won the Military Cross and Legion d'Honneur, and from the Normandy beaches sped all the way across France to the Somme.    

Once he drove round the Mediterranean.   Wouldn't like to try that now.

He owned the large Haystoun Estate and is now retired to a farmhouse on the estate.   Princess Anne came to his house for lunch a couple of years ago.   

A charming man.   I'll accept his invitation to come and have tea and a continued blether
