Shopping trip
Just 16 days to Christmas, or in the modern parlance, 15 more sleeps, and I still cannot get in the mood for Christmas shopping.
I thought I would make it easy today with a visit to a nearby store where I thought I could achieve everything I needed in one hit, and still be home in time for breakfast.
Foolish thinking, and somehow I missed out on the perceived joys of Christmas shopping with the express purpose of having everyone else in mind. Or perhaps I was harking back to the days of my own childhood, when there really was a Father Christmas (well to my mind, there was)!
There was the joy of finding an orange or perhaps a few sweets and little nick-nacks in my Christmas stocking — or a pillowcase if I was fortunate enough.
Today, the choice of Christmas gift ideas in just this store was baffling enough without dreaming of counting the cost of trying to fill a pillowcase or two.
Still, finding something for my wife should be easy enough — she has given me clear instructions as to what she wants. A £9.99 peeler for potatoes, fruit or salads. Even so somehow I have the thought deep in my mind that if on Christmas morning she has this sole gift to unwrap, I am not going to be the most popular chap around for the rest of Christmas Day, Boxing Day or the 12 days of Christmas!
