Ayang II

Arrived on the anchorage of Cabinda early this morning. The Ayang II is not ready for us yet, so we had to drop our anchor. Together with our bosun Agustin, I paid a visit to the Ayang II to check all the equipment there and to have a talk with captain and superintendent. The Ayang II is a well maintained Korean flagged floatel. Floatel comes from the words Floating Hotel; it is a flattop barge with accommodation and a crane on deck. Building a production facility like Tombua Landana is one thing, but to get everything up and running is another thing. This is done by a so called hook-up crew and this crew will be on board the Ayang II when she is anchored out close to the compliant tower. Her technicians working all day and night on board the platform and eating and sleeping on board the Ayang II. But that's not my concern; our job is to deploy these anchors, as on this picture, on the exact spot on the sea bottom. This is a so called Spek Self Balancing Anchor. It would not surprise me if it is a Dutch invention, because Spek is a Dutch word (it means Bacon). A little bit old fashioned looking anchor, not too big, I like that. I bit lousy picture, but that's because of the torrential rain at the time I took this picture.
