Pausing

The ice and snow are gone, I hope for good this winter, but the birds still flock to our feeders, and we welcome them. This male Varied Thrush showed up in recently, his plumage reminiscent of the sun's glow. (The extra photo shows him from the side.)

I'm looking forward to the Winter Solstice on Wednesday, and the gradual lengthening of the days. Incredibish has a beautiful photo and journal entry to mark the solstice;  the penultimate paragraph particularly touched my heart.
