The wait is over
A little more than 30 years ago I pulled down the shed in the back yard of the old villa where we stayed and raised our three children for almost exactly thirty years. I carefully saved and stored the timber from that shed. Some was used to make a wonderful window seat in our bedroom when we had made a sort of bay window (sort of in that it was rectangular rather than bowed or otherwise angled). Other bits have found other uses. But the door remained saved and stored. When we sold the villa and moved, we stored it in the storage cupboard in the garage under the apartment building we now stay in. It has been there for more than ten years waiting patiently to receive a new life.
Daughter J has given it its new role. As a table in her new office where she has a small (but adequate) space to hold meetings with her clients. We had long ago taken the paint off, so it is just raw kauri planks. J will need to put a protective layering over the wood, which may require sanding off the rough bits first.
I am delighted that this lovely wood is continuing to serve a useful purpose. When it is all finished, I will take an update photo.
The photo is taken outside the back entrance to her office; it was once a loading bay to a warehouse/store on Symonds Street.
