York City Walls

A day of shopping with a trip o York. We were picking up some Kellingley coal for our open fire. It is becoming difficult to get hold of since the colliery closed at the end of 2015. However it is well worth searching out as it is superb quality.

As we stopped off in Foss Islands Road I popped across the road to the Medieval city walls and the Red Tower. This marked the end of the city walls as the area beyond was a swamp. I have included an extra of the information board. Unfortunately the flash on my small camera obscured some of the detail. What interested me was the conflict between the stone masons and bricklayers.
