Burns Day

It is the day of our national poet. We are celebrating on Saturday with friends. I've been preparing for Katy's Burns Supper by reading a few poems, and I want to share this, written in 1772, a year after Thomas Paine published "The Rights of Man" and the same year as Mary Wollstonecraft published "A Vindication of the Rights of Woman"

The first verse of his poem The Rights of Woman, written over 200 years ago, reads -

"WHILE Europe’s eye is fix’d on mighty things,
The fate of Empires and the fall of Kings;
While quacks of State must each produce his plan,
And even children lisp the Rights of Man;
Amid this mighty fuss just let me mention,
The Rights of Woman merit some attention."

It seems apt with what's going on with us leaving Europe, not to mention Trump and his attitude to women.

Enjoy your haggis, neeps and tatties, not forgetting to have a wee dram.
