Blue Monday
1. The day starts grey. I'm up at 4 for no good reason so I'm aware of the change of light, from one to the other. Darkness to grey. Catching up with yesterday's Guardian magazine as a form of distraction and the interview with Shirley Maclaine adds the only colour.
2. A meeting in Martha's. I've not been here before, but it's bright and simply, but strikingly, designed. I like it immediately and sit with my coffee and toast and jam. Karen arrives wearing a jumper that matches Martha's perfectly.
3. I need some kind of hair ornament to fix the flyaway situation. In the first shop - lets call it shop A - I find over priced, badly designed nonsense and I appear to be sharing the cramped surroundings with people who have no awareness of other humans in the world and have never set foot in a shop before. I move on to another - let's call it shop P - where I find under priced, badly designed nonsense and appear to be sharing the shop with all the residents of Bridgeton. I select a little grey butterfly flecked with orange, pin my hair and walk on.
4. Late in the afternoon I can sense that the evening ahead will hold little excitement photo-wise, and notice how nicely my coffee cup sits alongside a flyer for a conference I'm going to. They co-ordinate rather beautifully. A little blue still life.
5. It's dirty work, the water turns a grimy chunky black but there is a certain smugness that only comes from an evening with a washed grill.
