Franz Josef

It rained a lot overnight and I kept waking up and thinking about how horrible it would be to have to pack up the tent in the rain. I got up early when the rain turned to drizzle and got everything packed up. We drove to Franz Josef village and after a stop in a cafe it looked bright enough to walk up to the glacier viewpoint.


We got a good view of the glacier. The clouds had just about lifted off it and there was a tiny bit of brightness. The extra shows the scale and the surrounding cliffs. But just after we turned around to go back to the cars, it started raining and we got soaked. Later in the day we went to the Hot Pools and spent several hours soaking in lovely hot water!
