Akaroa Head Lighthouse
Built in 1840.
The township of Akaroa was a French settlement, disputed with Britain but settled eventually in Britain's favour. It is on the shores of Akaroa inlet, itself formed in the crater of a long extinct volcano. A charming little town for a visit.
