As dawn breaks.....
.....sea mist hugged the hills looking north while smoke from the wildfires on the Port Hills of Christchurch hovered above the horizon from north to south, it was all about layers this morning. This shot taken looking north, so soft and mellow.
My first extra is looking towards the Port Hills, notice the layer of smoke above the horizon before the clouds which kind of reminded me of galloping horses.
Next is the actual sunrise, hot and fiery if only for a few moments before peeking between the clouds, the sea was turbulent at times, waves crashing onto shore but the air quite calm.
My third extra is a white-fronted tern with fish against a smoky sky above the estuary.
So nice to be back at the beach, smelling the salty air, watching the light change and noticing how the environment had changed since my last visit. In places it was a real wilderness with driftwood and rippled sand dunes. Also enjoyed the company of blipper mpp26, thanks for coming out M :)
Thursday - the day fires continued to rage on the Port Hills of Christchurch, many families have been evacuated and some have lost their homes, sad times.
