Marmalade hoverfly on a bonny oxeye daisy
I took this photo today at the Battleby office of Scottish Natural Heritage in a patch of ground seeded with a wild flower mix. It is a marmalade hoverfly Episyrphus balteatus (my second blip involving one of these this week). I like the irridesence on the wings.
This little area of ground showed the power of positive planting - it was covered in hoverflies from a range of species. I'll miss these guys come winter time!
