Harrogate? No, not today we went to York. Took the train to York to visit the National Railway Museum and then stroll the streets of York. Interesting journey to York through Knaresborough and several small places, sometimes on double track, sometimes on single track requiring the passing of trains and the use of tokens just as I do on the KESR. Lots of the old semaphore signals too and traditional signal boxes.

We've been to the Museum several times but there is always something new to see. This time we enjoyed some of the more detailed exhibits in the warehouse; railway memorabilia of every conceivable sort including the block instrument used at our local station in Bearsted. Flying Scotsman was in the Works having attention as was Sir Nigel Gresley which was stripped back to its frames undergoing a major overhaul.

We followed one of the numerous walks around York from the app GPSmycity. We avoided having to pay for detailed walking routes by navigating by smart use of Safari and Apple Maps. We followed the "Architectural" tour visiting many buildings that may well have escaped your attention including the magnificent Merchant Ventures Hall.

A quick bit to eat then the train ride back to Harrogate, this time on a Class 150 Sprinter, just one noisy step up the evolutionary ladder from the bottom of the heap, a Class 142 Pacer that we travelled on in the morning.
