Sleep Training Trial: Day 1

Warning! Boring baby routine trial blip. Will probably only be of interest (and even that is debatable) to other mothers of new babies.

Well we tried. Audrey's new regime started last night and the girl did good. She woke in the night (2am) as usual and I settled her with a couple of ounces of cooled boiled water instead of a feed. She woke on and off and I soothed her until 5.45am, at which point I fed her. It meant trying to get her back down until 7am which proved impossible but it's a start.

Today has been slightly less successful. Started well as she napped in the morning but she broke her lunchtime sleep after 45mins and was cranky and restless all afternoon. She didn't end up napping again and as a result we had to pull bath time forward. Settled her into what looked like a deep sleep at 6pm but then she woke at 7pm and has been awake ever since (it is 10pm now). Think that backfired!

I guess as we're meddling with her routine, there is bound to be an adjustment period. Told my husband we'll give it a few days before we give up. Might as well try it. Nothing to lose but if it doesn't work, am not going to get hung up on it - we'll go back to being Audrey-led.

On the plus side, she hasn't been screaming as much (as we've been putting her down for naps at first sign of tiredness) and she hasn't needed to sleep on us (is it wrong that this makes me ever so slightly sad).

Had an otherwise more positive day. A good walk with my husband and Audrey this morning, a few friends popped over for a cuppa, managed a 3 mile run followed by a roast tonight (with a sneaky glass of vino - starting to become a bit of a habit!)

Had less sleep last night as must have been up nearly every hour or so with her but surprisingly don't feel too bad. Could it be that more sleep actually disagrees with me? Maybe I need sleep training too.

*Boom*

That was my head exploding.

Night all.
