Glass Recycled

In front of our Carrefour  supermarket is a  large grey bin for recycling glass bottles (very convenient for us). Here the crane has picked the bin up, dumped its contents into the truck (a very loud crash), and is putting it back in place.  I had just approached and was fortunate to capture the event--I don't recall ever having seen it previously. (I noticed yesterday that the bin was very full, as I squeezed a couple of bottles into it.)

In the afternoon we went to the Jeu de Paume (at the Place de la Concorde, in the extra), for an exhibition  by the French photographer and cinematographer Eli Lotar (1905-69, born in Romania). He was a leader of French avant garde photography from the late 1920s on, especially as a surrealist. The exhibition is fascinating. I particularly enjoyed seeing a 1965 bust of Lotar by Giacometti (1901-66); the two met during World War II in Switzerland, and they became especially close during the last years of their lives (he was Giacometti's last male model, for several portraits).
