Orchid season starts again!
Really happy today as a quick look at the roadside verge where I found the wild orchids last year revealed several plants in bud and this plant already coming into flower.
The Early purple orchid Orchis mascula, is the first of the British wild orchids to flower (usually april - june) so really quite early this year. It is often found in habitats with non-acidic soil such as hedgerows, banks and verges - which was spot on for this one! Hopefully there will be more shots to follow shortly....
In my extras I have added a shot of the Bluebell woods also just coming into flower and equally early!! Looks spot on for my holiday in a weeks time!!
