Splendiferous Spring!

Stage two on the rat attack this am! I dug over where the covered dust bath had been - decided blocking up holes was pointless and a waste of time and energy - much better to dig the ground and expose the tunnels! Much moving of heavy bricks and breeze blocks and then tunnel annihilation! I did uncover a collection of straw the rats had pinched from the chickens, and on the last tunnel i disturbed a brown rat that shot out of the earth and across the chicken plot! I may have squealed in surprise! Poor thing must have been running down all the tunnels until it was cornered and had no option but to vacate the area! I hope it had not had babies which I may have intombed in earth!
Then it was home to wash and then off to Buckland Abbey  to see the spring flowers of which there were masses! Fritillary strewn grass, banks of Primroses, Trilliums looming under trees, Gunnera looming up and tulips waving in the breeze, fat Wisteria buds waiting to open and blossoms! There were even two camellias straight out of Alice - one red and the other red, pink and white - the playing cards had obviously been caught painting them red and had been sent to have their heads cut off! There was also some pretty sculptural funghi - one looked like a petrified rose! The gardeners were busy in the veg garden and the chickens were happily sunning themselves! The only down side was masses of children as they on their easter hols! We avoided them whenever possible!
Home via Morrisons to get something for a late  lunch and then the Recycling Centre - we had stopped there on the way to Buckland but it was closed until the collecting lorries had finished - so my recycling had a trip to Buckland as well!
