Easter backblip 2

Hoping to build up my stamina, and what better way to start than walking around Edinburgh with two young, fit people!

MrM drove us in to Berwick station so that Lucy, Jake and I could catch the train to Edinburgh. Once there, we started off with the National Portrait Gallery for the 'View from Here' exhibition. Photos from the 1840s to the present day transport the viewer around the world. Then a pleasant walk through Princes Street Gardens in the sunshine,  and up a very long, steep set of steps to the Grassmarket, where we stopped for lunch in a small, nicely informal cafe (extra). The quiche and salad was healthy; the cake was fabulous!

From there we walked past the castle to the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art 1, where we stayed until they threw us out closing time. Some interesting exhibitions, Nathan Coley especially, and we didn't discover the Bridget Riley paintings until it was almost too late. Once outside again, we wandered around 'Landform', landscaping designed by Charles Jencks, before heading back in to Edinburgh. Walked to Waverley Station via St Cuthbert's Cemetery and the Robert Louis Stevenson memorial in Princes Street Gardens. 

MrM very kindly met us in Berwick and drove us home to enjoy one of his amazing curries. A brilliant day out...
