'Wonderful Scenery Day'

We set off from Fox Glacier at around 8:45am this morning and headed South. Along the way to Haast we came across a fantastic beach along the west coast, think it was called Bruces Bay. Stopped for a quick walk down along the surf and a possible blip. It was brilliant, sunny blue skies after yesterday's mess.

We had beach on one side of the road and snow capped mountains on the other. This is where this shot was taken. The drive today was sensational, lots of varied terrain, but all stunning. Stopped of at Haast for a quick coffee at the Grumpy Cow Cafe, then heaed off to Queenstown via Wanaka and Arrowtown.

The further south we drove the colder the temperature got. We had lunch in Wanaka and a walk arounf the shops all buying extra polar fleece jackets for the cold conditions. Apparently it had been snowing there in the morning and the temperature had risen to a balmy 3 or 4 degrees by lunchtime.

Headed off towards Queenstown via Cardrona then realised that I hadn't filled up the tank. About halfway between Wanaka & Queenstown the low fuel light came on. Uh Oh, do I turn back or go on and hope that we don't run out? I decided to push on hoping that if I did run out it would be on the down side of the mountain heading towards Queenstown, we made it to the top and then I put the car in neutral to conserve fuel and coasted down the mountain. It was also snowing by the way so the views were spectacular. Managed to limp into Arrowtown hoping for a refuel but being told that the closest station was in Frankton about 12km away. Just got there. RELIEF at last, after parting with $130 bucks to fill up. Fuel is soooo expensive here.

Drove back to Arrowtown where it was still snowing and looked gorgeous today. Spent up some more $ in the lolly shop (Thanks Mario) and then headed into Queenstown to find accommodation for tonight.

The temperarture here is expected to drop to -6 overnight with a max temp tomorrow of 8 degrees. We are headed off in the morning towards Milford Sound where we will spend a day or two before heading back up to Wanaka for our next Blipmeet and personal tour from Tussock Tales and Acyclinggranny. see you guys in a few days.
