Old Town Hall, Carlisle

I had to go to Carlisle today and the rain was torrential. This photo of the historic Old Town Hall  had to be snapped in great haste before water droplets swamped the lens.

This wonderful Grade 1 listed building of Medieval origin marks the end of the Cumbrian Way. About 20 years ago, I remember arriving here with my young son on the final day of our 70 mile hike - in blazing sunshine! It dates from 1669 and has been variously used as a Courts of Assize, a Magistrates Court and a Town Hall. It now houses the Tourist Information Centre.
