Quiet Harbour
Geese enter the harbour at Kolimbari, in Western Crete, where we ate a long and delicious lunch before setting off to walk to the memorial to the Cretan military cadets who died fighting the German army invading Crete at nearby Maleme in the Second World War.
It was suggested today that we were perhaps in an area afflicted by too much tourism - a suggestion as far off the mark as it could be. Yes, there are busier patches along the northern coast of Crete, but The Discerning Visitor (that'll be me...) knows that a little effort finds delightful tavernas selling wonderful fish, deserted coves where the only visitors are goats ...
In short: we've seen hardly any tourists for the last two days. Bit like our home lives, really - only it's hot and sunny and the sky is an amazing blue and the wine-dark sea varies from purple to green. Perfect.
