Creation Assured

I did some gardening
And moved a tarpaulin
Found slugs and snails
And beetles crawling
Silvery patterns
White spider-egg nests
Oozing wildlife
Veritable treasure chest?
A mouse popped out
Nose busy twitching
Scuttled quickly away
Cat's focus switching
To a frog's jerky jumping
Then frozen in fear
Soon smothered with leaves
Hunter's proximity so near.

So for all of the above
All these creatures quite small
I'm grateful to God
Who created them all.

But what God gave mankind
What makes us unique
What separates us from animals
We've seen the worst this week
Terrorism is breeding
And fear is to be fought
A reminder to trust God
As more we ought.
And locally too on this election stage
Aggression and intolerance
Abusive language, an outrage.
We learnt this morning
Why Habakkuk was so assured
"For the earth will be filled with
the knowledge of the glory of the Lord."
