Diary of an Edinburgher

France Last Day

I am pleased to report that I have recovered enough to enjoy a day in Bordeaux. One of the highlights was the fabulous mirror lake. But it was switched OFF today!

We had a bus and walking tour (the cathedral was closed too), but we got lost (on purpose) from the group and wandered off to find our own way back to the boat later. While having a coffee, we could the hear most beautiful violin music, the chap in the top photo behind the balloons. He happened to be playing ’Ave Maria' at midday, when the minute's silence was being observed in London. Our tour leader, who is from Belgium, gave a very moving talk this evening about the recent terror attacks in the UK (and Belgium).

We house swapped to Bordeaux a few years ago, and so we wandered round familiar streets, and settled in a sunny square for a beer and to watch everyone. I could do that for hours!

We wandered back along the promenade (10,200 steps) later in the afternoon. Everyone was out roller skating, scootering (is that a verb?) and biking. We then sat out on ship's deck with today's cocktail, watching the constant stream of people walking by.

A lovely evening meal, then a one man band did quite a few oldies' favourites, but not as good as the two chaps the other night - so I did not feel the urge to join the movers and shakers on the dance floor ('Thank goodness' said JR).

It's been a great holiday, slightly marred by me getting sick - DUH! Some folk are continuing for three more days, but we're actually quite ready to come home tomorrow - it's quite tiring being on holiday...
