Triangulating
I have always liked this bridge crossing Erie Basin at the Quays.
It hasn't always been here. Disused, it was towed here from it's former location crossing the Ship Canal in the late 1980's, under the alert and worried gaze of the Ship Canal's harbour master. It was then given a good lick of paint. You can still see where it used to sit, as its former foundations are still there, on the north side of the Clippers Quay site currently under development.
Erie Basin is seeing a bit of change at the moment. To the right of this bridge, on the other side of the Basin, the new BUPA HQ is now almost fully glazed, and sits quite comfortably with the other buildings around it. Further up, near the Anchorage, work has just begun on groundworks enabling the construction of a new apartment block, which will have two full face very big glazed frontages to the waterside. And in the other direction the very different new building for The Alchemist, which sits on the Bund at the head of the basin, is on target for a July opening. Something to look forward to for cocktail fans.
Some call the array of buildings along the "northern" side of Erie basin "The Mantlepiece". I can see why.
