First Choice
I’ve been practising my culinary skills. Well, with daughter Michelle visIting from her home just outside Milan, I figured that Italian cuisine would be in order.
My favourites like Spaghetti Vongola or Lasagne Verdi, Fritto Misto or Fagioli all'uccelletto are fine but I’m afraid I’m lost without a recipe, but fortunately after delving in cookery books and a few internet searches I reckoned that I was well equipped to meet the aspirations of our daughter.
Except that I hadn’t reckoned on the obvious! While I always enjoy a Mediterranean dish our daughter having lived in Italy for many years might well miss something more English and traditional.
Hence we found ourselves having lunch out and a choice of more traditional English meals. Unfortunately, we discovered the restaurant we first opted for in Southampton’s Ocean Village is no longer open on a Monday. So it was a pub lunch — traditional fish’n’chips with peas! And far from all those recipes I had researched for an evening meal — yes, you’ve guessed it —you cannot beat roast chicken for simplicity.
And breakfast today? Well, full English, of course!
