The Trouble with Skippers - Part 3
How do you tell the difference between a Large Skipper - which is not that large - and a Small Skipper which can be quite large? Well, its easy enough if their wings are open (the Large has much broader dark brown wing margins) but they tend to rest with them closed or half-closed. Fortunately the Large Skipper has a faint pale orange chequered marks on both sides of its wings which are absent in the Small Skipper, although they can be hard to discern in the field.
