Lunules
Surveying for silver studded blues this afternoon - its all about the hindwing lunules which have tiny specks of bright blue on a black background. The ones on the Ashdown Forest seem to be very sparsely marked, this one only has two lunules with blue markings. This afternoon I walked my own woodland transect and was delighted to see Silver-washed fritillary, White Admiral and Purple Hairstreak all on or around one oak tree.
