Round robin? NOT!
Kingfisher? 'Tis!
Not the best of today's 160 shots.
But it befell thusly...
We decided it would be nice to not wander about all day, for a change. This lot were advertising a "Round Robin" trip comprising
A)1. A rail journey from Paignton along the coast, by rail, to Kingswear.
A)2. A "10 sec ferry" over the mouth of the Dart to, funnily enough Dartmouth: where we had time for a decent meal at ''The Station Restaurant''. Possibly the only Railway Station never to have had a railway line nearer than the other side of the river. Thereby hangs a tale,. which I can't remember accurately enough to recount.
B) A 1.75 hr trip up the Dart to Totnes, where we had another brew.
C) Another open topped bus ride back to Paignton.
You can, maybe, understand the 160 or so shots.
How this one came about was a bit weird to say the least.
We were chugging silently along the Dart when the bloke giving the spiel said
''......and this next section we call 'Kingfisher Alley', if you see one this trip it'll be along here.''
No sooner said than done.
I just happened to be walking over to that side of the boat when I yelled "There's one."
I didn't frighten it, it was already going like the clappers of Hell up river past us and I just happened to be pointing in the right direction, did not raise it to my eye, did not attempt to focus, did not ''half-click'' for focus (Damthing would have been in Totnes by then), went click.
I couldn't even detect, on camera, whether it was even in shot. It took a download, mucho scrutineering and cropping 19/20ths of the shot away to even see this.
But since ''one of us'' has been trying for a Kingfisher for so long I just felt I had to Blip it. Needless to say it took precedence over the several Herons and Egrets we saw.
