A Musical Intermezzo

Today 75 years ago, the once little village of Princenhage lost its independence and became a suburb of the bustling and more politically powerful town of .. Breda.  To commemorate this event, the local council got together and organized a musical afternoon.  Some 12 large estates opened their spacious gardens for folks to come and listen to various quartets -- saxophone, vocal, string, as well as to larger ensembles.

I did not know this until M, the wife of hubby's friend H, phoned to ask if I would like to attend this together with her, especially as H and hubby had already agreed to attend a bridge afternoon at the Breda Casino.  I am not so keen on company at the moment, but if you do not respond to a friendly invite, you might not get another, and it was a chance as well to get away from the end-of-schoolyear-start-of-holiday vertigo-related nausea I usually experience at this time of year, as well as a good excuse to explore Princenhage, an idea I'd had for some time.

While drifting in and out of the various gardens to the strains of Mozart, Schubert, Hayden, Glenn Miller, Ella Fitzgerald, and so on, we could not help but notice some really beautiful flowers, which, of course, I shot as well.  In the extras, though, you'll see more musicians.

A lovely day.  To cap it all, hubby and H won FIRST place at the Casino and hubby brought home a 25-euro dinner coupon.  Together with a 15-euro coupon he won last year, we now have a bit for a tidy dinner sometime when we're in the mood.  Hubby has actually won three times already, so when it comes to the Casino, he's always asked.  Not a bad day there, either.  When we got back home, hubby texted M that H is a really good bridge player.  In reply, M texted hubby that I am a really good photographer.  We had a good laugh.
