Botany Bay

These gates are where I join the canal on my walk from chez Minx to the David Lloyd Health and Fitness and Wellbeing and Good Karma Centre. 

Once upon a time I guess this was the main entrance to Botany Bay, with lorries going up and down the road, collecting the goods that were dropped off by the canal boats travelling up from Liverpool. 

Maybe. 

My grasp of history is a bit shaky here: would there have been lorries at the same time goods were still being moved by canal? I find my only source of knowledge here is my youthful familiarity with Treddle's Wharf in Chigley. So, that's a resounding yes :-)
