Yorkshire -Day 1
So much has happened since my last blip, that it is hard to remember that we only left Edinburgh yesterday at lunch time. It was a perfect day weather wise and the countryside on the east coast as we hurtled south in the train was looking at its verdant best while the sea sparkled an enticing blue.
As we waited at Northallerton to change trains, the sun heated my suitcase to a temperature that would have enabled me to cook a fried egg on it.
Our B&B in Thirsk is very central and our attic bedroom has a view over red roofs to a field of cattle. (Extra image)
Our friends whisked us off today to Salts Mill at Saltaire where we spent several hours wandering through the galleries and shops. This blip is of Hockney's chair, although It is hard to believe that it was the correct size for him.
We drove home via Skipton and the Dales, along windy back roads where hedgerows bordered grassy fields containing grey escarpments, stone field barns and dry stone dykes.
Every so often we would happen on a tumble of grey stone houses lying low in a fold of the hills.
A wonderful day of scenery and conversation, perfectly rounded off by a meal when we arrived back in Thirsk.
