Its Gone Off!
It literally rained all day and never let up until the back of seven this evening. There were some torrential downpours that caused localised flooding and the river to rise rapidly.
By late afternoon the river had burst it banks and flooded many of the fields in Carradale Glen. The annual church duck race is on Saturday, so we are all just hoping the water level drop rapidly or, for the first time since the event began 15 years ago, the ducks won't be racing on the river on the planned day! At least there is still a day and a half for things to dry out and the forecast is pretty good, so fingers crossed!
When the rain did go off the light improved slightly and revealed some pinkish clouds from the setting sun. I had a walk down to the estuary to try and capture the mood of the river in spate as it gouged out large swathes of sand and pebbles from its banks. However, when I reviewed the shots, which were all in low light, I preferred this one where the river meets the sea. Normally, when the tide is almost out, the mouth of the river is only about 7 or 8 metres across. Tonight it spread out like a fan as it met the open bay and was at least 50 metres wide with the raging water being driven into the middle of the bay (seen better in LARGE).
Some good news on a wet day- the electrician arrived and fixed the heating. The builder had phoned in the morning to tell me that because of the long holiday weekend, it would be at least Tuesday before the armoured cable was delivered and installed. With the temperatures dropping of late, I decided enough was enough and we agreed that the electrician would call and install standard cable in a suitable conduit to protect it. Now why didn't they just do that in the first place?
