A New Day

Galloway Forest Park

What a glorious day on which to end our holiday! Blue skies and sunshine all day and just a gentle, cool breeze to stop us overheating on our walk. We visited the Galloway Forest Park today and the photo is of the Glentrool Visitors' Centre, one of three in the park.

The forest is stunningly beautiful, with rivers and hills and views wherever you look. We hiked up to Robert the Bruce's Stone, a huge chunk of rock on a cairn overlooking Loch Trool which commemorates a victory over the English in 1307. The battle was won when the Scots hurled great boulders down on the army below - a novel new weapon!

We drove back to the cottage via the high roads and again the views (especially in the sunshine) were magnificent. We'll certainly be back to this lovely part of Scotland.
