rehearsal
Anniemay has proved indispensable on this trip. This morning she managed to sweet talk the hotel in letting us use one of their conference rooms for rehearsals. She’s also been helping me personally by drinking all the free beers that I keep getting bought by members of the audience.
This morning’s rehearsal is just amazing. I feel very privileged to sit in with four wonderfully talented musicians. I’ve tried performing solo a few times and I really don’t like it. I’m a team player - I love the creativity that emerges when a group of people get together and bounce ideas of each other.
This is Tim, the bass player. He’s the quiet one in the band, sitting at the back playing such a steady rhythm that we have no need of a drummer. And he sings.
We’re very lucky in that all five of us sing - and this morning we got a couple of 5-part harmonies nailed. One of the hotel staff stops to listen; “you’re very good”. Yes we think we are - but can we do it tonight? I’m not the only one who forgets the words.
Anniemay thinks I prefer rehearsal to performing. I think she’s right.
The extra shows Anniemay and Deborah (another groupie) patiently waiting for cake-break.
