Clandon Park
The beautiful Palladian mansion Clandon Park in Surrey was severely damaged by fire in April 2015. The inside was gutted leaving the solid walls, built in the 1720s, as a hollow shell. The building has been made safe and is shrouded in plastic and scaffolding, waiting for the National Trust to finalise plans as to what is to be done. It has to be restored to some extent because of the terms of the insurance cover.
I visited today with the WI on a guided tour. Hard hats and high viz jackets were worn! We had access to three of the rooms on the ground floor. It was amazing to see the marble fireplaces still intact in the Marble Hall when all around was devastation. I have posted some extras, and you can read more about it on the National Trust website.
