Raganlies! For The Many!

Colourful Mai and I headed down the dreaded A30 to hear Jeremy Corbyn speak at Heartlands at Pool, in the shadow of a tin mine. We were doing ok till we turned off at Pool and hit a major traffic jam! In the end I told Colourful Mai to get out and walk, there was no point us both missing him speak! I finally got to the venue and looked for a parking space - resident permit parking only! I decided to risk the £100 fine and parked there anyway!
I found Colourful Mai easily and as it was we waited quite a while for Jeremy to appear! But oh it was worth the wait! The 3 speakers prior to him were good - and thankfully brief, and then he stood up with his little black book which he had been looking at during the others speeches! He didn't look at it once whilst he spoke! He really does speak with passion and a lot of clear sense. They all spoke about the NHS but he took the issue of health wider, to peoples wages, environment, educational opportunities. We were both so inspired we went to the labour stall afterwards and I bought a badge and bag and Mai a T-shirt! We then headed back to my car -phew no ticket!
Back on the A30 we headed to the beach at Portreath! The place was full of body boarders and people on the beach protected by  those old fashioned wind breaks! The place really felt like the beaches of old - apart from the body boarders and wetsuits! There were still people with bucket and spades and nets! Mai had brought her costume just in case and was going to swim - I intended to have a coffee and take photos! I had just settled down with the coffee and a piece of caramel shortbread and all Mai's stuff when she reappeared with a new body board! So we both set off for the sea! Well she was one of the few without a wetsuit! She happily played on the waves whilst I equally happily photographed her and everything else!
What a very satisfying and fun day! Pool is an area with high levels of unemployment  and domestic abuse and has some of the highest levels of deprivation in the country, Cornwall is the poorest county. Mai used to do a lot of work there with the Housing Trust she works for. Apparently even though the sea is so close a lot  of the children of Pool have never been there - no cars and no money. I hope Corbyn can change things for the many - raganlies.
The rally is here and the beach here.
