Lenin
Day 5 and we are on the move again, this time onwards to Ulan Ude which is a far East as we will go this trip. This was supposed to a stopping off point before Mongolia, but for one reason or another, mainly because of the complications of getting a visa, we did not go. As it turned out, this was a great idea, as we had much more to time to explore the area.
It was still a good eight hours on the train to get here, so most of the day was spent on a train, with a good deal of it going round the southern edge of Lake Baikal. No pictures yet, one or more will come in days to come.
Given we had an eight hour train journey, we till not get to our hotel to late in the afternoon, after which we went in search of food and ale, and found it in the Churchill of all places. They had fish the the Better Third could eat, and beer that I could drink, so it satisfied both of us.
The pub itself is a big square where this Monument to Lenin can be found. It is supposed to be the biggest Lenin head in the world. I guess it must be true, but who on earth has the job of measuring all the Lenin heads (there are a lot of them in Russia) a decreeing that this is the largest. Either way, I was a bit disappointed, I thought it would be even bigger.
