Motte and Bailey

Home early from work due to local bank holiday so down to the riverside where there are two mounds commonly known as the Bass which supported a Motte and Bailey Castle built by the Earls of Garioch around 1100.

Also used as a base by Robert the Bruce in May 1308 before the first battle of Inverurie. Also there are some Pictish stones around the bass Very historical surroundings for our local graveyard.

Will be checking out more local historical sites once the weather gets a bit better and I can get my bike into play.
