Young Robin

Mum and I were enjoying a cuppa at the tea-rooms at Watendlath, above Derwent Water, when this bold little bird flew down for crumbs. 

What is it that makes robins so brave around humans? If I'm weeding in my garden, it is always a robin that comes within touching distance to snatch grubs and insects.
