Majestic focus

This was a quiet corner of Ocean Village marina in Southampton today by the elegant architecture of the Royal Southampton Yacht Club.
Much new development embracing apartments, bars, restaurants and a hotel are changing the face of the Village, yet still the Yacht Club dominates the marina itself.
It is built out over the water and holds a commanding position overlooking the pontoons and moored craft in the marina as a fitting prestigious base for a Royal Yacht Club.  It also boasts what is  arguably the most spectacular setting for a restaurant in the city, well recognised by members for its cuisine.
Thinking back, it was the restaurant which enticed me to seek membership some years ago.  True, the village itself was very different in the early 1990s from what it is today, and apart from the Yacht Club, the focus then was on converted dockland cargo sheds newly opened as a tourist inspired retail area alongside town houses, apartments and offices.  Earlier it had been the dockland base for cross Channel ferries and for more than 100 years had provided the dock for railway owned ships to the Channel Islands and France.
Today the retail interests have almost completely disappeared to make way for trendy new waterfront apartment development, Yet still the Yacht Club, on the left of our Blipfoto provides a majestic focus over the marina in the  Village.
And the restaurant still holds a favoured spot in my heart!
