Tranquil
Stopped by the tidal creek at Eling on the upper reaches of Southampton Water today and I was far from being the only Bank Holiday visitor.
It’s not really a tourist spot at present, but the view across the creek is stunning, to the village church on the hill. At high tide like mid afternoon today the creek comes to life and though there was little movement among sailboats, jet ski enthusiasts and canoeists were much in evidence Even the occasional bather near the shoreline. And a number of youngsters catching crabs from the quay wall..
But it was this view which particularly took my fancy. Hopefully before long Eling's waterfront attractions will take a fresh dimension. It’s home to an historic tidemill which is undergoing renovation and there are plans to develop and enhance industrial land nearby.
In the meantime, pick the right spot and savour the atmosphere of a quisentially tranquil English scene. — tidal waters, yachts and a church on the hill.
Love it.
