Victory Day

Today was apparently a Bank Holiday in Turkey to celebrate the 1922 victory under Ataturk over the Greek military in Turkey’s War of Independence. We asked because the restuarants and some houses put out their flags and Ataturk photos and were told of the "big soldier, who won us our Country". No parties, music or noise just the peaceful, friendly Turkish resort it always is.

We had started the day on a breakfast boat trip, sailing around the small islands and stopping off at swimming coves. Very relaxing and back home by early afternoon. Mehmet and his wife looked after us very well.

By mid afternoon the wind got up and the sea started to look choppy, we even had little wave splashes breaking on the shore. We had booked our evening meal up the hill at a new restaurant that had opened in May. By the time we got up there the wind had dropped again but we were left with some amazing cloud formations that made for one of the best sunsets we have ever seen. We delayed ordering the food until the show was over. The 3 generations of family running the restuarant made us so welcome and the boys came to the car to open the doors for us as we left. They didn't speak much English but liked the phrases, the house is yours when you are with us and if you are happy I am happy. A pretty good attitude to service.
